Nano Technology in LCD display


LCD (liquid crystal display) or liquid crystal display fabric so familiar in our daily lives. The screen on the laptop, digital camera, or mobile phone into an example. How to work this device requires electricity-from battery or other energy sources to generate liquid crystal in order to emit light. 

Current LCD technology has several models, including liquid crystal STN (super twisted nematics), dual scan twisted (DSTN) liquid crystal ferroelectic (flc), and surface ferroelectic Stabilized liquid crystal (SSFLC). These developments do not just stop, since the last research team from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute New America successfully combines fluids with nano particles to increase the performance and electrical stability of the LCD.

"The results of this study open the fluid nano applications in the future," said Theodorian Borca-Tasciuc, research team leader was quoted as saying by the official journal Inside Rensselaer (www.rpi.edu). According to the Romanian man who pocketed a doctorate from the University of California Los Angeles, the manipulation of fluid volume becomes an important issue for a variety of devices such as optical devices, digital display until the MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) like the one in the lab-chip analysis systems.

 In his research, a team led Borca-placed drops of water added nano particles called bismuth-tellirude into Teflon-coated silicon capsule. When electric current is applied to these droplets, the researchers detected a significant change in angle of water droplets that touch the capsule. This change is greater when compared with the liquid without nano particles are tested in the same condition. "With the same electric current, we can get a smaller size with nano fluid. Nano particles into a force in this process," added Borca.

The ability to change angle of water droplets touch that makes the nano fluid has the potential to efficiently applied to various systems such as for the miniature camera lenses, cell phone screen or a computer cooling system. In essence, if successfully applied this discovery, any form of LCD screens will be more sexy. Can be thinner in size, balanced by a better quality than they are today.
